Take your bike on a guided tour of Luang Prabang. Start at the National Museum, housed in the former Royal Palace, where you can learn about the history of Laos and of many of the places and buildings you’ll see (Note: closed on Tuesdays). Continue to Wat Mai which is famed for its golden bas-relief, and the dazzling golden façade of Wat Sensoukarahm. Then pay a visit to 16th century Wat Xieng Thong, the most photographed temple in Luang Prabang. Have a proper Lao lunch at the family-run Tamarind Restaurant, where the friendly staff will explain the history and ingredients of the food they serve.
After lunch ride to the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre and learn more about Laos’s culture and its great diversity of hill tribes. Ride on to Ock Pop Tock weaving centre and learn about this craft which is central to Lao culture. After breakfast head to the picturesque Kuangsi Waterfalls. These waterfalls create a series of pools and are perfect for taking a cooling swim in. Their limestone rock formations and the surrounding jungle provide a natural setting for walks and relaxation (please wear a sarong when bathing). The Bear Rescue Center here provides information on the efforts being made to protect these endangered animals.
In the evening you’ll witness a ‘Baci’, one of Laos’ oldest traditions. It is used to call back escaped spirits from the body and is performed before important events such as welcomes, weddings and farewells.

These caves are an important Buddhist pilgrimage site and you will see many people visiting them during Pii Mai, or Lao New Year.
On the way back, stop at a village to learn about the process of making the traditional rice liquor, or ‘Lao lao’. Lunch is at your leisure.
Spend the rest of the afternoon at a local learning initiative ‘Save a Tree’. Opening in 2015, the The Pha Ke Botanical Garden aims to raise awareness and promote environmental education to local school children in Luang Prabang. Until the center is officially opened, donations of books on Lao flora and other educational publications will be made to local schools. Contribute to this initiative on this fun afternoon lending a hand to Pha Ke as they teach schoolchildren more on their precious environment.
